The Scotch Egg Challenge is Back
30 May 2022
Young’s annual Scotch Egg Challenge is back!
Now in its 10th year, the highly competitive free-to-attend contest will take place in The Guinea Grill’s event space, Guinea 23, on Monday 20th June with a star-studded line-up of chefs (full list below) including James Knappett (The George), Calum Franklin(Holborn Dining Room), Tom Booton (The Dorchester) and Young’s very own MasterChef winner Natalie Coleman (The Oyster Shed). Expect an evening filled with Scotch eggs galore, from the classic to the experimental, and downright quirky.
Founded and hosted by Oisín Rogers, general manager of Young’s The Guinea Grill, and all-round bon vivant, the Scotch Egg Challenge has established itself as one of the most popular and anticipated competitions in the hospitality industry. Previous winners include The Drapers Arms, Holborn Dining Room and Smoking Goat.
Compered by journalist and Maitre d’ Joe Warwick alongside the Evening Standard’s, David Ellis, the contest is judged by a line-up of culinary experts alongside special guest judge Darragh Curran, the Guinness Guru, who will fly in from Dublin for the event. The judges blind-taste every egg, scoring each out of ten for taste, appearance and presentation. Highest scoring egg wins!
Oisin Rogers General Manager of Young’s Guinea Grill and founder of the Scotch Egg Challenge comments: “I can’t wait to welcome everyone back to the Guinea to take part in the Scotch Egg Challenge. It’s been amazing seeing all our customers enjoy special events again, and now it’s finally time to host one of our biggest parties of the year. It is going to be a lot of fun – come one, come all and bring a huge appetite.”
Sponsored by Estrella and brought to you by Young’s pubs, the Scotch Egg Challenge will take place on 20th June between 6pm and 10pm and is free to attend (subject to capacity), scramble down for a taste of the action with plenty of scotch eggs available to try.
