NEW OPENING | The Apollo Arms – A Slice of Countryside Charm and Character in the Heart of Clapham
14 Jun 2023
The capital’s hottest new opening this spring, The Apollo Arms will showcase the very best of British pub culture alongside the highest quality food and drink, a spacious garden terrace and inviting hospitality. Located in the heart of Clapham Old Town, The Apollo Arms is the latest pub from Oliver Marlowe and Hubert Beatson-Hird, who opened The Hunter’s Moon in South Kensington and Ganymede in Belgravia to rave reviews.
THE FOOD
The accessible yet exciting menus will put the spotlight on modern British food using the highest quality ingredients, sourced locally where possible. Owner Chef Director Oliver Marlowe and Head Chef David Halewood (formerly The Coach, Clerkenwell) will work closely together on the daily-changing lunch and dinner menus, as well as an extensive bar snack selection, plus brunch and an epic Sunday lunch come the weekend.
Dishes might include tuna sashimi with whipped avocado; tagliatelle with morels, asparagus and wild garlic with shallot cream and brioche crumb; alongside pub classics with an elevated twist such as The Apollo Arms beef burger with Gruyere cheese and triple cooked chips; and beer-battered haddock and chips with tartar sauce and pea purée. Perfect puds include sticky toffee pudding with banana and vanilla ice cream, and an exotic twist on a baked Alaska using mango, vanilla and lime.
Come the weekend, it’s all about brunch and Bloody Marys – something The Apollo Arms is not in short supply of! Kick back and savour classics like Eggs Florentine, Benedict or Royale; or smoked salmon with creamy scrambled eggs on crunchy sourdough. Choose your Bloody Mary from the six-strong ‘Bloody Good Bloodies’ range, including a showstopping ‘The Hunter’s Moon Bloody Susan’ for up to six to share.
Sister sites The Hunter’s Moon and Ganymede have both received widespread acclaim for their epic Sunday roasts, and The Apollo Arms is set to follow suit with a royally good selection. Choose from butter roasted corn-fed chicken with bread sauce; treacle cured sirloin of beef with horseradish cream, or crisp suckling pork belly with caramelised apple sauce, each served with all the trimmings including a Yorkshire pudding, crisp and fluffy roast potatoes and lashings of gravy.
For those looking for a bar bite to accompany a drink or two, there’s bountiful options including homemade scotch eggs and sausage rolls, alongside fresh oysters, and foie gras and chicken liver parfait on toasted brioche with white wine jelly.
DRINKS
The food is complemented with an extensive drinks’ menu with wines and champagnes to suit every taste, including Coates & Seely English sparkling and Bruts from Digby Fine English. Top shelf spirits, many sourced locally, sit alongside a selection of craft beers and ales. A cocktail list featuring all the classics such as the truly viral ‘broken negroni’ – Sbagliato Negroni; as well as signature serves like Great British Hugo; and the NC’Neam Espresso Martini, a nifty twist on the beloved classic.
INTERIORS
Positioned in the heart of Clapham Old Town, the interiors of The Apollo Arms, designed by Novo Design, are minimalist yet warm and inviting. This less is more approach lets the space feel lived in – as if it’s been there for years and with the furnishing getting better and better with age.
A modern interpretation of a quintessentially English countryside pub, with plenty of cosy corners and elegant spaces, there’s exposed brick and timber wood panelling offset with tiling and flourishes of foliage adorning the walls, ceilings, and tables. With a neutral colour palette from taupe to dark greens to navy blues, the space is warmed with accents of gold, antique brass and marble, exuding style and charm. Further lending to the countryside aesthetic, antique furniture finds and vintage-style pendant lighting, along with marble top tables, and large statement mirrors complete the space.
Perfect for spring and summertime sessions with your nearest and dearest, The Apollo Arms boasts a spacious secret garden terrace, set to be Clapham’s new go-to destination for al fresco sipping in the sunshine.
