Strawberries and Pimm’s at the ready as Wimbledon makes its return for 2021. Swinging into action from 28th June-11th July, tennis fever is out in force this season, from pop-up terraces, cocktail specials and delicious dessert serves, take a look at our round-up for some of the best spots acing the Wimbledon celebrations.
It’s game, set and match at Young’s, as its collection of six Wimbledon pubs are capturing all the action – from screenings to new terrace pop-ups with Sipsmith. Complete with floral installations, outdoor bars and an exclusive Strawberry Smash G&T, soak up the atmosphere from the pub, or head to The Dog & Fox for the biggest outdoor screen and watch every swing with your very own ‘match-pint’.
Bar + Block
Steakhouse Bar + Block is set to serve a host of ace dishes and drinks to celebrate the home of tennis. With restaurants across the country including Bristol, Bath and Birmingham as well as Wimbledon itself, guests can get a bite of the action with two strawberry-based desserts, including decadent Meringue Kisses, alongside two smashingly good cocktails. There is also a 10-minute express menu for £10 that will have you back courtside before you can say ‘new balls please’.
It’s game on at The Happenstance Pimm’s Terrace, just a stone’s throw away from St Paul’s. Boasting multiple outdoor screens, you won’t miss a smash or serve while sipping away on a dedicated drinks menu, featuring themed cocktails including the Clover Courtside, Murray Smash and the Sundowner Spritz; a blend of Pimm’s newly launched raspberry and redcurrant Sundowner, prosecco, soda water and raspberries. Keeping things quintessentially British, the bar will also be serving a cream tea with Pimm’s jam.
Serving up a slice of something sweet, head to luxury French tea emporium Mariage Frères for a tennis dessert special, featuring a true-to-life tennis ball filled with a soft mara des bois strawberries and pink rhubarb confit, covered in a white chocolate ganache, flavoured with Mariage Frères’ signature London in Love® tea, sitting on a green ‘court’ of Parisian shortbread (£9). Enjoy in the Salon de Thé and pair with a cup of delicate London in Love® tea.
Planning a picnic at an outdoor screening of Wimbledon? Score all the points with Liberation cocktails Strawberry Daiquiri – all you have to do is add ice and shake! Available as a bottle or can, sip away on a smooth blend of barrel-oaked white rum, British strawberries, fresh lime juice and sugarcane, while if you’ve got a party to host, serve up a 5-litre keg – the perfect match for a Grand Slam soirée. Creams Café is serving up two limited-edition treats to celebrate the much-anticipated Wimbledon tennis tournament. Sweet tooths will love the decadent Eton & Mess Sundae (RRP £6.95) with its tempting combo of refreshing strawberry gelato, crushed meringue, fresh strawberries and velvet vanilla ice cream, drizzled in strawberry sauce for the true finale. Whilst an indulgent Creams Cake Factory Cheesecake (RRP £6.45) will be available in a summer peaches and cream flavour, coupled with a choice of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or custard. The ace puds will be available in store nationwide, as well as via Deliveroo and Uber Eats from June 29th, 2021.
