To celebrate the highly anticipated forthcoming release of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express, with a stellar cast including Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz and Sir Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot, a string of seductive cocktails are now available at the art deco Manetta’s Bar located within the elegant, boutique Flemings Mayfair hotel.
Named after the original 1930s Flemings bar, Manetta’s recaptures the spirit of Christie’s crime novels, a place where spies can swap secrets and covert tête-à-têtes take place; and accessing Manetta’s Bar is now easier than ever with a brand new and exclusive entrance from Clarges Street.
Agatha Christie based her book, At Bertram’s Hotel, on Flemings Mayfair, and Manetta’s plans to return the favour with the creation of four new cocktails inspired and named after each of the carriages on the Orient Express. Make like the stars and sink into the plush sofas at the bar while you admire the portraits of Gertrude Stein and Agatha Christie by Sussex artist Kate Boxer with a drink in hand.
A potent, scarlet-red aperitif, L‘Oriental combines Calvados, Dubonnet and Lillet Blanc for a sweet and spicy journey to the Far East with a side of Turkish Delight.
A fragrant combination of Grey Goose L’Orange, fresh lemon juice, blue almond syrup and violet liqueur won’t just get tongues wagging — it’ll turn them blue. The deep colour is inspired by artist René Lalique’s luxurious glass sculptures which adorn the 1st class carriages of the Orient Express. The light combination of sweet herbs and citrus notes makes this the perfect long drink, served in a saffron-rinsed glass.
Named after the Orient Express’ original bar carriage, this drink evokes the ambiance of the art deco age. Simple but perfectly formed — with just the right amount of Balvenie 12 year-aged scotch, Averna, orange bitters and Applewood — offering heady overtones of smoke and a bitter orange finish.
Etoile du Nord
Look to the skies and sink into this smooth, eminently sippable digestif named after the Northern Star. With Remy Martin VSOP cognac, white chocolate liqueur, cream sherry, exactly three drops of chocolate bitters and a Himalayan goji berry foam to top it off, this delivers sweet and mellow notes with just the right amount of warmth.
Sit back and relax as Manetta’s Bar takes you on a sensory tour with everything from fragrant drinks to bold art. Bitter or sweet and mellow, these cocktails are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
