On Wednesday 25th January, Clerkenwell’s favourite gastropub, The Well, will be celebrating the works and spirit of Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns, with a one-night-only Poetry Slam between poets Jan Noble and Tim Wells, injecting a little modern competition into traditional Burns Night proceedings.
From 7pm-9pm, guests will be invited to raise a dram or whisky cocktail to the bard, and feast on Scottish-inspired canapés including; Hebridean lamb sweetbreads with herb aioli, Scotch quail egg, haggis croquettes and mini Aberdeen angus beef Wellington. There will even be an intimate whisky masterclass for revellers to trace the heritage of the poet’s homeland.
Teaming up with Haig Club, Talisker and Copper Dog whiskies to create a little slice of Scotland in the heart of The City, The Well’s pop-up Highland Hunting Lodge, inhabiting the downstairs cocktail lounge, is the perfect sanctuary for Burns Night celebrations – complete with fur rugs and throws, hunting rifles, stag antlers and tartan galore.
Tickets are available for just £15 and include a welcome whisky cocktail, canapés, a ring-side seat at the poetry slam and invitation to the whisky masterclass. Visit downthewell.co.uk for booking information.
The Highland Hunting Lodge is also available to hire exclusively every evening for up to 70 people with no hire charges, just a minimum spend of £500 Sunday – Thursday and £750 on Fridays and Saturdays (inclusive of VAT and service at 12.5%).
