A historic 19th century riverside pub in acres of glorious gardens, superlative seasonal food and comfortable bedrooms that combine impeccable taste with picture postcard views. Welcome to North Norfolk’s latest foodie destination, Sculthorpe Mill, from seasoned restaurateurs and siblings Siobhan and Caitriona Peyton.
Situated in stunning countryside just two miles from the Georgian market town of Fakenham and a short drive from the county’s beautiful beaches, Sculthorpe Mill has undergone a major six-figure refurbishment. With interiors by designer Shaun Clarkson and the spectacular grounds further enhanced with the addition of a new outdoor dining terrace and beautiful flower-covered pergola, Sculthorpe Mill has been transformed into modern and welcoming pub for all seasons.
As was as delicious all-day pub dishes, there’s also first-class restaurant menus from Head chef Elliot Ketley (Soho House Group, The Square). Dishes are locally inspired, seasonal and gutsy with ingredients sourced primarily from Norfolk producers. Throughout the summer, a Garden Menu, served on the covered terrace with two crystal clear streams running either side, is cooked on the giant charcoal-fired ‘grizzly’ – expect impeccably sourced Dexter beef and whole fish on the bone.
Wine consultant Zeren Wilson is responsible for the exciting wine list that puts the spotlight on lesser-known producers and boutique wineries whilst behind the bar East Anglian cask ales and craft beers include brews from the local Duration, Moongazer and Barsham breweries and cider from Whin Hill in Wells-next-the-Sea.
Six en suite bedrooms offer just the right degree of comfort and luxury (and means you can fully indulge in Sculthorpe’s food and wine without having too far to roll home). From family suites to doubles and dog-friendly rooms, all boast soothing views of the Mill’s gorgeous gardens and the river. Rates start from just £110 per night inclusive of a hearty Norfolk breakfast.
With beautiful grounds, impeccable food and the gentle soothing babble of the River Wensum as its soundtrack, this pub with rooms is a magical destination for staycations as well as a must-visit for foodies.
