The first ever British Street Food pub takeover has landed – welcome to the Marquis of Wellington. Sitting centre-stage on the famous Bermondsey Beer Mile, the pub is back from a two-year hiatus with an urban-cool new look, pizzas cooked to perfection and an incredible collection of beers.
Step out from the shadow of The Shard and slip away from The Thames to find the Marquis of Wellington. You can’t miss the namesake’s statement lettering across the brick frontage, illuminated by upturned spotlights when the sun goes down – it’s the star of the Bermondsey show. Come inside to discover statement scrap metals revived and repurposed into wall art features, sitting alongside vintage school chairs, copper piping and exposed original brickwork.
Work your way round to the patio and take your pick from weathered wooden benches or gather around the blazing fire pit. The hand-painted graffiti walls, in vibrant shades of blue and purple, make for the ideal foodie snap.
FOOD TRUCKS & PERFECT PIZZAS
Can’t decide whether you fancy oozing mac ‘n’ cheese, a filled-to-the-brim burger or cheesy chips? Get them all at the Marquis of Wellington thanks to the British Street Food takeover. Founded in 2009 by Richard Johnson (London Evening Standard The Power 1000 four years running), the British Street Food Awards champions the most exciting young British chefs cooking on the streets. This takeover brings the brightest and best of street food under one pub roof – it’s a match made in foodie heaven.
Each week, new traders will be popping up next to the Marquis of Wellington, serving up the very best of British street food to hungry Bermondsey locals. Confirmed guests include Smokin’ Lotus, The Chip Club, BearBQ and Harley Dogs. Still not sure what to choose? Set at the heart of London’s street food scene with the infamous Druid Street and Maltby Street weekend markets, the Marquis of Wellington and its neighbours offer the perfect places to pick up any street food favourite.
And there’s more… the Marquis of Wellington’s own main menu exclusively offers perfectly cooked pizzas, hand-rolled then fired in the huge oven. Choose from the likes of prosciutto crudo with sun blushed tomatoes and fresh rocket; shards of smoked salmon, creamy ricotta and drizzles of lemon oil; and grilled aubergine and artichoke with soft mozzarella and Sicilian extra virgin olive oil. Alternatively, create your own from a huge array of toppings. There’s even Sunday roast pizzas for the ultimate British/Italian mash-up.
Home to the British craft beer revolution, the Bermondsey Beer Mile plays host to the top pint pit stops, attracting beer aficionados all over. The Marquis of Wellington is no exception – on tap hop fans can taste test a variety of local craft brews in both keg and cask from Camden Town Brewery, Southwark LPA, Horns Brewing Co and Clarkshards among others. In celebration of the award-winning street food on offer, the Marquis of Wellington will also be the first pub in the UK to offer Roadswill – the British Street Food beer brewed in Bermondsey and specifically designed to be paired with street food.
London’s spirit of choice has its own menu here, filled to brim with premium gins including locally-distilled favourites Jensens and Dodds, all perfectly paired with Fever Tree Tonics.
Come experience the very first street food pub at the Marquis of Wellington – we’re all trendsetters after all.
