Leading French bakery and pâtisserie PAUL has announced today that it has extended its partnership with food waste fighting app Too Good To Go, to prevent food from all its UK cafés and bakeries going to landfill.
The extended partnership will see all 37 PAUL shops using the app to offer freshly made sandwiches, viennoiserie and fine pâtisserie to customers at the end of service for a reduced price.
Since joining the app, PAUL has already saved over 35,000 portions of food from going to landfill and avoided over 88 tonnes of CO2 from being produced, a leading cause of climate change. This is supporting PAUL’s wider mission to minimise all food waste by 2021.
Too Good To Go connects food businesses that have unsold food with hungry consumers, who can save a ‘Magic Bag’ of surplus food from going to waste. Consumers simply download the free Too Good To Go app, search for nearby stores with leftover food, which they can then purchase for a great price through the app and collect from the store.
Bread Pudding Initiative
Further reflecting PAUL’s commitment to reducing food waste, the brand works with food charity, The Felix Project. Since 2016, it has produced a delicious bread and butter pudding as well as providing the charity with leftover loaves. Over 4.5 tonnes of surplus bread has been turned into bread and butter pudding and is now reaching vulnerable people including the homeless, those suffering from mental illness, women in refuges, children and the elderly.
Rachel Meier, Sustainability Manager at PAUL UK comments; “We have been creating quality bread for 130 years, however as it is baked fresh every day, using just four simple ingredients, it can’t be sold the next day. The same principle applies to our feshly made sandwiches, salads and delicious viennoiserie. We want to make sure as much of this delicious food as possible feeds people, not landfill, and Too Good To Go is a key partner in this mission to reduce our food waste to zero.”
Hayley Conick, UK MD of Too Good To Go comments; “We’re on a mission to eliminate food waste globally and we are delighted PAUL is committed to helping us do this. Preventing delicious and perfectly edible food from ending up in landfill is not only a win for the planet, reducing CO2 emissions from wasted food production, but makes good business sense too.”
