English Wine Week kicks off on Saturday, 27th May and to celebrate, Ormer Mayfair, arguably housing one of London’s largest English wine collection, will be showcasing the best of the country’s home-grown grapes.
Michelin-starred chef Shaun Rankin and Head Sommelier Andreas Rosendal have created a stunning five-course tasting menu bursting with fresh, seasonal dishes inspired by the Jersey shores, each carefully paired with some of the best wine England has to offer (£150 per person).
Opening with a glass of 2014 Bloomsbury sparkling wine, Ridgeview Wine Estate’s signature blend, this wine’s crispness is an excellent complement to shellfish and an ideal pairing with Rankin’s delicate Jersey crab salad. Next, an aromatic Pinot Noir, winner of Decanter World Wine Awards 2016 for the best red wine above £15, is selected to balance the rabbit with its rich truffle gnocchi and salty pancetta elements. Moving onto the main event, a pale and crisp Rose de Noirs, the perfect summer drink with an abundance of fine bubbles, is well-suited with a delectable turbot dish. A pure and clean Demi-Sec sparkling wine follows to present a selection of fine British and French cheese from renowned cheesemongers Paxton and Whitfield, while a sweet white from the Denbies Estate in Surrey effortlessly compliments the caramelised elements of apple crumble as the finale.
