Reading’s most sociable venue, Oakford Social Club is back. The much-loved bar, restaurant and music venue, in the heart of the city opposite the station, has reopened following a considerable makeover with a brand-new menu and a whole host of music acts lined up to perform.
The two-storey hotspot is bedecked with exposed brick walls, vintage fabric lamps and music prints that are sure to get the conversation started. Choose from an array of benches, booths and leather single seats that surround heavy wood-topped tables throughout the expansive bar, or head to the large terraces at the front and back of the building.
Satisfying Soul Food
The menu takes inspiration from our friends across the pond with satisfying stateside soul food. Dishes include a choice of Oakford’s brilliant burgers such as the Big Cow beef rib patty with flat iron fingers (seasoned steak strips), creamy cheese sauce, and fiery tobacco onions and the classic aptly named The Usual beef rib patty with emmental cheese and bacon. For something different the Katsu Burger comes with Southern fried chicken dripped in katsu curry sauce and sandwiched in a brioche bun.
Don’t wait for the last orders to enjoy the chicken specials – tuck into wings, thighs, drumsticks and Boneless Bites all marinated overnight in milk, then fried to perfection in your choice of seasoning and served up with fries and slaw. Alternatively, go the whole hog with a full spatchcock chicken served with garlic butter and your choice of dip.
The Oakford has an ever-changing, seasonal craft beer range that partners perfectly with the comforting food. Real ales from Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Fruli sit alongside US craft beers from the likes of Hogsback London’s Outback and Moor Claudia. Cocktails are also on the menu with signatures including Oakford’s Rum ‘n’ Ting, the Smokey Paloma and a classic Negroni.
