New Opening: Jhakaas – A Modern Indian Delivery Brand in SE London
13 Oct 2021
Jhakaas, meaning ‘epic/superb’ in Hindi, is firing up the tandoor and set to open for delivery and collection on 21st October. Opening in Brockley Rise, SE London, Jhakaas is the brainchild of Dayashankar Sharma, the executive chef behind the critically acclaimed fine-dining Indian restaurant Heritage Dulwich, with an epic food menu that takes its inspiration from India’s four major cities – Delhi, Bombay, Kolkata and Chennai.
Not your usual Indian take-away, Jhakaas has been designed in the style of the myriad urban cafes that line the streets of India’s major cities. Diners placing a to-go order are invited to linger and enjoy a drink of aromatic spiced Karak Chai, Desi coffee or Nimbu Pani – Indian lemonade served on pretty much every Indian street corner – along with snacks of Khasta Samosa and Namak Para (strips of pastry seasoned with ajwin & carom seeds).
Borne out of the demand in the area for restaurant quality Indian food to-go, the sourcing of ingredients and quality of dishes will reflect Chef Sharma’s 30 years of culinary experience, gleaned from acclaimed restaurants including Tamarind, Zaika and most recently, Heritage Dulwich.
Available to order for delivery or collection to select South London postcodes, three set meals will take centre stage, each generously serving two. The Rajputana (£45) features Punjabi Butter chicken and lamb Rogan Josh alongside a range of housemade sides – think Dal Makhani and Saag Aloo and rices, breads and chutneys, while the Rajputana Grill (£48) is a carnivore’s dream with Awadhi Murgh Kebab, Jhakaas lamb chops and Varhadi poussin complete with sides, butter naan and Pulao rice. Plant-based diners are well catered for too with the Rajputana Vegan (£40), which will showcase dishes such as Tofu Saag, Lasooni Tadka dal and Kalkatta Bigan Bhaja – shallow fried aubergine – with Champaran beans and baby corn, as well as a selection of indulgent plant based rices, breads and chutneys.
A delicious selection of small dishes are also on offer such as the Bombaiya chicken kebab, Saboodana Vada and Calcutta dal pyaas bhajiya. Larger options come in the form Kerelan Lamb (spiced masala, crushed black pepper), Meen Kuzhambu (grilled king fish steak in tomato & tamarind sauce), classic Delhi Butter Chicken as well as a selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes including a Paneer Lababdaar, wild mushroom kofta and Tofu Saag.
Jhakaas delivery radius will span 3.5 miles and up to 5 miles for pre-orders at least 24 hours in advance from its location in Brockley Rise, SE23, and will be available to order via the website Tuesday – Sunday (5PM-10:30PM).
