The new look Chequers Inn in Hanham Mills, Bristol, is home to seasonal British food, fine wines, fantastic beers and an exceptional collection of craft gins. Set on the edge of the River Avon and just a boat ride away from Bristol, the pub has been totally refurbished, and with its show-stopping panoramic windows overlooking the water, roaring log fires and heated terrace, The Chequers Inn really is a pub for all seasons.
Split into three areas, the Avon View room, with bi-folding doors, opens out onto the extensive outside terrace during the summer, a perfect spot for dining and alfresco drinking. The Snug is a dog-friendly spot with comfy sofas by the fireside, ideal for laid-back afternoons and relaxing evenings, whilst the heated terrace offers amazing canal-side views and beautiful scenery, come rain or shine.
The fresh and seasonal British menu is split into three sections; light snacks include a comforting spiced pumpkin soup; a baked duck egg, tomato, pepper and chorizo stew; and an indulgent chilli Dorset crab mac ‘n’ cheese. From the grill, 28-day-aged Angus steaks are sourced from local Newton Farm while the Chequers mixed grill includes the steak alongside wild boar sausage, Dingly Dell gammon, black pudding, fried duck egg, confit tomato, onion rings and triple-cooked chips. As well as daily specials, pub classics such as Young’s Special ale, steak and mushroom pie also feature. Chequers’ proper pub Sunday roasts with all the trimmings are second to none with choices of roast sirloin of British beef, half chicken, West Country leg of lamb, or for hungry bellies and the indecisive, opt for a selection of all three.
Behind the bar is a great selection of premium drinks from Young’s ales and lagers, to a selection of rotating local beers such as GWB’s Maiden Voyage and Wickwar Brewery and Bath Ales, whilst craft ales include Siren, Laganitas, Camden Hells and Founders. Perfect for pre-dinner drinks, a selection of cocktails are shaken and stirred by expert bartenders, whilst liqueur desserts are the perfect alternative to after-dinner sweet treats. Get into the spirit with a variety of gins and vodkas, perfectly paired with tonics, sink into one of the 25 wines from warming Malbec to complex Chardonnay, or celebrate with bubbles from their list of champagnes and sparkling wines including renowned Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut and the elegant Prosecco Superiore.
Bringing the pub up to the standard of this beautiful part of the world, welcome to the new look Chequers Inn – a pub to call your own.
