Hattingley Valley, the family-owned Hampshire vineyard, known for its award-winning English sparkling wines has announced the release of its Blanc de Blancs 2014 vintage, created from that year’s perfect growing conditions that created good yields of excellent quality.
Created by Head Winemaker Emma Rice, Hattingley’s Blanc de Blancs 2014 (RRP £47.50) is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, carefully selected from chalk vineyards in Sussex and Hampshire.
Pale golden colour with a subtle green hue and persistent soft mousse, this Blanc de Blancs has vibrant citrus and green apple aromas layered with honey, nuts and hints of marzipan. The palate is beautifully balanced with refreshing crisp acidity and wonderfully integrated oak, that gives way to a creamy mouthfeel and long, complex finish.
The Chardonnay grapes were hand-picked from the best vines, and gently whole-bunch pressed. Approximately, 13% of the total blend was fermented in old oak barrels and partial malolactic fermentation took place to provide a round and creamy texture. The wine was then aged for five years on lees in bottle to add complexity and depth, before being disgorged in March 2020, resulting in an elegant and refined sparkling wine, with potential to age further in the bottle.
Blanc de Blancs 2014 will be available to buy direct from www.hattingleyvalley.com from mid-March 2021.
