The legacy of the falafel legend is coming to Aldgate with Pilpel – the people’s favourite lunchtime bite that’s sure to leave you feeling fala-full after every visit. Using a secret family recipe, Pilpel will dish up vibrant, herb-packed falafel salads, pitas and more to a hungry line of Aldgate locals. For opening day on Monday 24th October there’s free falafel pitas up for grabs from 12-2PM, so don’t miss out!
Named after founder Uri Dinay’s childhood nickname, bestowed by his Grandfather after he saw fire in the young boy’s spirit, Pilpel (meaning chilli pepper) will offer a zingy dining experience. The main event will feature Grandfather Zion’s secret falafel recipe, developed over his 60 years working on a falafel kiosk in Tel Aviv, cooked to perfection with a crisp exterior and fluffy centre. These chickpea energy balls are guaranteed to keep you firing on all cylinders well past the 3pm slump.
Choose from falafel in a warmed pita or salad box, both filled with shredded carrots, red cabbage, pickled cucumbers, jalapeños and crunchy onions plus a swish of homemade houmous. Next, add that little something extra in the form of aubergine, guacamole, feta, hard-boiled eggs and sundried tomatoes. Each delicious meal will be served drizzled with homemade tahini sauce (which you can buy bottled at the counter) and a smoky chilli sauce. It’s 100% vegetarian and sure to satisfy omnivores and veggies alike. International drinks including an intriguing banana and strawberry soda, and a selection of London-brewed beers will offer the perfect companion.
The new restaurant will feature low bench seating under a canopy of exposed filament lighting. Look out for the industrial-cool distressed copper panels, geometric tiled floors and exposed concrete walls, plus the Pilpel chilli logo dotted around the room.
Falafel is Grandfather Zion’s legend; Pilpel is his legacy. Be a part of it with Pilpel Aldgate.
