Just-opened Ganymede on Belgravia’s Ebury Street offers exceptional British cuisine and a carefully crafted drinks list, in a relaxed yet elegant bar and dining room. Named after the largest moon of Jupiter, Ganymede is the second opening from Oliver Marlowe and Hubert Beatson-Hird, who brought The Hunter’s Moon to South Kensington to rave reviews.
From lunch through to dinner, after-work drinks and leisurely Sunday roasts, Head Chef Daniel Mertl’s (Chez Bruce, The Glasshouse) menu changes daily and features beautifully plated yet unpretentious dishes using only impeccably sourced seasonal ingredients.
Expect showstopping starters such as rabbit and pistachio terrine with toasted rye bread and burnt onion emulsion; and soused Cornish mackerel and rillette with prawn toast and cucumber dressing; as well as truffled cauliflower soup with cep and a Comté scone.
Mains might include quail and foie gras wellington with creamed potatoes and roast shallots; warm Jerusalem artichoke salad with gnocchi, pickled artichokes and parmesan; and fillet of stone bass with creamed polenta, saffron soffritto, leek heart and cavolo nero. Finish on a sweet note with the likes of apricot and hazelnut tart with praline parfait; or chocolate fondant with crème fraiche sorbet, caramel and hazelnut.
Come Sunday, it’s all about the roast – choose from corn-fed chicken or sirloin of beef, served with all the trimmings including a Yorkshire pudding and fluffy roast potatoes whilst crisp suckling pork belly comes with parsnip purée and pommes cocottes. Plant-based diners can opt for the impressive cauliflower steak.
For those looking for a bar bite, there’s homemade scotch eggs and sausage rolls; oysters; grilled sardines on toast with chimichurri; and courgette, ricotta, lemon and chilli croquettes with saffron aioli, providing the ideal accompaniment to a drink or two.
A well thought out drinks menu offers an extensive choice of wines and champagnes, with a vintage and region to suit every taste, including Coates & Seely English sparkling wines. Top shelf spirits, many sourced locally, sit alongside a selection of craft beers and ales. A cocktail list featuring all the classics as well as signature serves like Ganymede’s Chilli & Cucumber Margarita, made with Aqua Riva Tequila, Jalapeno syrup and Tajon, as well as the Caruso Spritz, a mix of Morgenster “Caruso” Sangiovese Rosé, soda and topped with fresh fruit.
Positioned on the corner of bustling Ebury Street, the interiors at Ganymede are bright and modern, featuring sleek tiling and panelled walls, offset by exposed brick and timber wood flooring. Designed by Novo Design, a colour palette of deep winter hues, from dark greens and navy blues, is combined with accents of gold, antique brass and marble to create a space that exudes style and charm. No detail has been overlooked, right down to the bathroom ceilings that feature an impressive black and white mural, depicting a scene from Greek mythology of Ganymede being abducted by Zeus.
A relaxed bar area at the front provides the perfect spot for an afterwork drink, whether you’re taking a seat by the window to watch the world go by or pulling up a comfortable leather stool at the bar. As you move to the back, you’ll find a smart and spacious dining room complete with forest green leather banquettes comfortably seating up to 12, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, and plenty of natural daylight. Two feature wine display cabinets complete the space, alongside soft touches of potted plants, pendant lighting and bespoke artwork.
