The Danish word “hygge” (sounds a bit like “hooga”) roughly translates to cosiness. However, that definition doesn’t quite cover it. Hygge is so much more and always involves taking pleasure from warm, soothing things in the company of lovely people. In short, hygge equals calm and sanity — and Londoners could certainly do with some of that. Nowhere is hygge more in evidence than at Scandi-inspired casual dining concept, KuPP, located in the peaceful surroundings of Paddington Basin.
Escape the cold
Tuck into an intimate supper cuddled up with your loved one at a canal-side window table and enjoy a little Julehygge. Enjoy that warm feeling of togetherness at KuPP where the restaurant and bar is dressed with twinkling lights, Scandi-chic decorations and rustic woodland candles – you’ll be feeling the festive cheer from the moment you walk through the door! This winter season there are three festive menus available, including a lavish three course sharing feast, smorgasbord menu and canapé selection.
For that hygge feeling indulge in KuPP’s decadently stacked double patty Elk Burger that arrives dripping with Danish Blue cheese, and finished with smoked onions and roasted beets. Alternatively, dunk your spoon into a Slow Cooked Elk and Venison Karelian Hot Pot, a fabulously heart-warming Finnish meaty stew.
Contemplating a dessert? Hygge is all about enjoying delicious food and not fretting about calories. Sooth your sweet side with White Chocolate Pepperkaker Ginger Biscuit Cheesecake – where sweet meets spice with plenty of crunch.
Nothing says Christmas quite like mulled wine, but this year take the Nordic approach to this classic cup with Glögg, finished with warming fresh ginger and a sprinkling of flaked almonds. Heat things up from the inside with KuPP’s new Hot Toddies which blend Kopparberg Spiced Apple Cider with Scotch whisky, honey and ground cinnamon.
As the nights draw in, embrace the sharing element of hygge this Christmas and book your annual get-together at KuPP. Eating good food, drinking warming toddies and all in good company, now that’s hygge!
