Located in the centre of Hull and serving hearty Pieminister pies throughout the day, The Corn Exchange has reopened under new management following a full refurbishment.
Step in to discover a newly bright and airy pub, decked in shades of soft blue, with contemporary styling additions including old-school leather-topped stools, quirky light fittings and big screens for guests to catch all the latest sports on.
Snacks come in the form of mega crisps topped with fiery jalapenõs, salty olives and spicy ketchup; baked camembert with cornichons and crunchy bread sticks; and free-range British sausage rolls topped with a choice of fresh chillies or spicy ketchup. While sharing platters – both for veggies and carnivores – are ideal when dining with friends.
For the main event, the nation’s famous dish, pie and mash, has been given a 21st century update thanks to global flavour combinations from Pieminister. The award-winning pies are made exclusively from responsibly sourced ingredients including free range British meat and seasonal vegetables. Choose from the likes of Moo with British beef steak and ale; Meatador with beef steak, chorizo, olives and butter beans; Heidi with Somerset goats’ cheese, sweet potato, spinach and red onion; and even Saag Pie-Neer with peas, paneer, spinach, potato, chilli and mango.
Don’t fancy all that pastry? Look to Pot Pies of Captain Nemo (hake, salmon, pollock and prawns with a cheesy mash topping); Moo & Brew (slow-cooked beef steak with ale and a mash top); and Holy Macaroni (wild British venison and scotch bonnet chilli with macaroni cheese).
No pie is complete without sidekicks of mash, minty peas and red wine and onion gravy. Experimental diners can add jalapenõs, PM No.10 Chutney, macaroni and cheese and spiced cabbage too.
A collection of rotating seasonal cask ales and keg beers including Jennings Cumberland Ale, Robinsons Dizzy Blonde, Calendonian Deuchars IPA and Meantime London pale ale make for the perfect pie pairing, with a selection of local craft beers available too.
Those with a penchant for the UK’s most-trending spirit can take ginspiration from the pub’s expertly developed gin menu. Here, premium gins including Broker’s, Langley’s and Sipsmith are perfectly paired with selected Fever Tree tonics. Grape fans are also well catered to with an extensive wine list.
