In Japan, Mother’s Day – or Haha No Hi – sees families treat mothers, old and young, to a delicious multi-course feast as an expression of their love and appreciation. Junsei, London’s favourite new Yakitori hotspot, is marking this tradition with an exclusive lunchtime omakase tasting menu from 25th-27th March designed for families to enjoy together.
From perfectly grilled yakitori skewers to traditional donburi rice dishes topped with meat, egg and vegetables, the meal will take guests on a culinary journey which celebrates some of Japan’s most revered ingredients and flavours. And, because no celebration is complete without bubbles, Junsei will also be treating mothers to a complimentary glass of champagne or bellini across the weekend.
Served omakase style, the limited-edition tasting menu starts with six skewers, chosen and prepared by the chef with Mum’s taste in mind. Cooked over Binchōtan charcoal, a white variety made from Japanese oak considered the purest charcoal in the world, expect a range of skewers from chicken thigh or gizzard to quail eggs, okra, and eryingi King Oyster mushroom.
Next, guests can indulge in a traditional donburi rice bowl, with a choice of Oyako Don (chicken & egg), Soboro Don (ground chicken) and Shroom Don (mushroom). The menu finishes on a sweet note with either sticky toffee pudding or chocolate fondant.
Junsei’s Mother’s Day tasting menu is available for lunch from 25-27th March for £50pp and must be ordered by the whole table. Book via https://junsei.co.uk/reservations/.
